Did you know that you could see a miniature Statue of Liberty in Richmond? Look no further than Chimborazo Park. This statue was created as part of the Strengthen the Arm of Liberty campaign in 1950, but sadly, many of the statues have been destroyed or lost, but the one in our very own city of Richmond is still standing tall, at about eight and half feet and 290 pounds.
If you want to learn just a little bit more about the history of Richmond, Chimborazo Park is the place to look. It was created almost 150 years ago, in 1974, and is full of bits and pieces of Richmond’s rich history and all of it is all conveniently located on East Grace Street. Chimborazo Park is home to the National Battlefield Park headquarters and during the Civil War, Chimborazo Hospital, the largest confederate hospital, was located here. After exploring the history of Richmond, you can take some time to appreciate the view. Chimborazo Park is one of the few spots in Richmond where you can see a 180-degree view of the city and the James River! One of the most photogenic spots in Richmond, Chimborazo is a great place if you want some beautiful shots of the city or a backdrop for graduation or wedding photos. It will also make your pets and children feel welcome, as it has a dog park (one for big dogs and one for small) and a playground. The family friendly environment is great for couples and families with children, but it does close at sunset, so if you are able to take your sunglasses off, then it is time to leave! The history of Richmond comes alive in Chimborazo and it is never too late to get out and explore what this beautiful park has to offer. Just grab a picnic lunch (and a nice pair of shades) and make your way over. Just imagine how beautiful it will look once the snow hits us again!

Rianstar reviewed our very popular bamboo wood sunglasses the Libby. We have a new color coming out very soon to be added to the red. Keep checking us out to see what is new!
Here we are, the end of summer. Time to hit those last few festivals and events outside before it gets too cold. SunFlipz wood sunglasses will have some exciting news coming up in the new year. We plan to re brand into a new name which we think will be very exciting to everyone. It will be more in line with our products and our mission. We are adding more exciting new products and will be bringing in a new experience and website.
We have enjoyed meeting new fans of our brand and old friends as well. We look forward to meeting and interacting with you until the end of our festival season which will be October. After that we will only be selling on our website until the spring of 2016 where we will gear up and offer even bigger and better products! Feel free to email us anytime though with questions or comments. David SunFlipz Every once in a while I get asked at a festival, "why wood sunglasses? what makes them different from your typical sunglasses that i wear?" For one, they are made out of wood where majority of sunglasses are made from injected molded plastic and acetate which is a like plastic but derived from renewable resources. Also wooden sunglasses are of course renewable.Very renewable. If you throw them in the fire you will have just ash, melted lens and two hinges. Lastly, wood glasses tend to be lighter but definitely not as flexible. You do not want to twist, flex or snap either material as your sunglasses will most likely break.
Style is a big factor of wood glasses. Besides being a natural resource they are very stylish. They are different and wear differently than other sunglasses. What is very cool is that each style, even though they are the same style and wood, will always look different due to the grain of the wood. No two are exactly alike. They are unique. Choose the wood, the color, the style and wear a pair of sunglasses. Take them for a spin and you will get looks and questions about them. I have people always tell me how they have started conversations with strangers because of them. Go out and find why wood sunglasses are becoming the newest and hottest trend on the East Coast. I have recently started taking pictures of myself and animals, specifically ones you see on a farm. I began because I wanted to show my daughter and I thought she would really like to see the animals. She wasn't as excited (still excited but not as much as I hoped) and I found that I actually love taking selfies with farm animals. They seem to like taking them with me as well. I have added some pictures of me with eagles, donkeys, camels, goats, llamas, and mini horses ( lil Sebastian) I posed with some of our wood sunglasses and one prototype.
Let me know what animal I should take a picture with next! I guess I should put a picture of my cat in there somewhere. Since I have started selling wood sunglasses to men and women at festivals and events, I have come across the question or comment "what style or size should I get?" or "Most sunglasses are too big for me". I have become very good at matching faces with my wood sunglasses. Whether you have a round face or a chiseled square face, there is a style for you. I found a video, below, that helps quite a bit when deciding what style and shape sunglasses you should get. As always I tell my customers in the end, its you that have to decide if you like them or not. Its part of you and how you want others to see or how you want to project your style. Go for what makes you comfortable. Fathers day is less than a week away. SunFlipz is having a special 20% off sale leading up to Fathers day. Use the code COOLDAD to get some wood sunglasses for dad, or husband or for yourself. Great features include: They float! except the ones with metal, they do not float. When it gets hot out the wood stays cool. If you need kindling in an emergency you can use your sunglasses (only in an serious dire emergency). What other great uses can you think of? Comment below with your cool ideas for wood sunglasses.
Wow, it was hot at the Blackbeard Pirate Festival in Hampton this past weekend. Sunny and hot with 1 hour of rain (much welcomed). I did not get a chance to check out the festivities but I was right next to the stage for bands. I heard many sea shanty's and learned more about the history of sea shanty's. Great day for wood sunglasses. I can only imagine that if pirates had worn wood glasses they would be of the wood variety. Arrgghhh!
Let me start by saying "Douglass, you are awesome!." I met Douglass at the Festival in the Park in Roanoke this past weekend. He was walking by drinking a root beer ( I am a big fan of all things root beer), I asked him where he got it from and if it was close. I was hoping to make a root beer run. He explained that it was kind of far away from where I was located. He said he would bring one to me if I was still there by 5pm. I didn't think about it as I was busy selling sunglasses to the kind people of Roanoke. Sure enough he comes back with not only one but two root beers!!!! One was an extremely delicious caramel cream root beer by Brownie's. I offered and tried to give him some money for the root beers and his trouble but he would not have any of it. I will pay it forward as soon as can. What a great gesture and totally unexpected. Thank you again, Douglass ,for making my 3 day 12 hour days much better.
I also saw a gentleman dressed up as Elvis. This weekend SunFlipz will be in Hampton for the Blackbeard Pirate Festival. Yes, you heard that right. PIRATES!!!! I have a feeling it will be totally awesome. We traveled up to Lake Anna for the Lake Anna Brewfest Saturday May 16th. My daughter came with me for this event and proved to be a good helper. There were plenty of craft beer vendors and a great variety of beers to try. Hardywood Park Craft Brewery was there as well as Legend to represent RVA.
This weekend SunFlipz with be at the Roanoke Festival in the Park all weekend starting Friday May 22nd at 11am. Saturday and Sunday they open at 10am. We will have some new wood sunglasses styles and our new tee shirts that we just got in today. We are stoked to bring in something new to our already popular line up. Time to get the wood out! |
