PLANK Eyewear was just at the Horse and Hounds Wine Festival and I had a great time despite the heat. Everyone I met was pleasant and in a great mood. I met some tiny horses and all sorts of dogs as well. Even though it was hot hot hot, I ordered and enjoyed one of those wood fired sourdough pizzas. Yumm!
This next weeekend PLANK Eyewear will be slinging our wood sunglasses at for the first time at Purceville Food and Wine Festival. The festival will be from 3-8pm at the Firemans Field. Stop by and check out our unique, lightweight and eco friendly wood framed sunglasses. There will be food, wine and music as well so much to do. Here we are, closer to summer and that means brew fests are starting to become popular. With so many craft breweries and the popularity rising it is fitting that our next festival is up in NOVA for the Summer Brewfest. I hope that the weather cooperates for us and we all have a spectacular Saturday and Sunday at the festival. Right now the forecast is calling for mostly sunny and 81 degrees with a 10% chance of rain. Looks like a good weekend for craft beers and wood sunglasses! Here is the list of the breweries and beers.

Lets do the sun dance to keep it with us the entire weekend. PLANK will be in Fairfax for the Celebrate Fairfax! festival. Lots of fun for everyone with great music. Plain White Ts, B52s and Living Colour will be the headliners. There will be 2-3 more stages with local and national bands as well. Come check us out in the AT&T HUB where the Wegmans Uncorked stage will be set up. Our eco friendly wood sunglasses will be the perfect match for sun and great music. Finally the sun has come out. PLANK Eyewear will be at the Festival in the Park in Roanoke this upcoming Memorial day weekend. We will be in Magnolia alley where the walkway to the music starts. The weather forecast looks to be hot and sunny most of the weekend with potential showers throughout the day. The little bit of rain would be helpful for the hot day especially if its a scorcher. Roanoke is a great city and I look forward to hopefully meeting some of the people I met last year and make some new friends as well.
Here is the list of the bands playing throughout the weekend. Check them out! It will be nice to be close to the music this year. I was set up far enough away last year that i did not really get to hear all of the bands playing. Not this week but next week I will be at the Starbucks on Midlothian Turnpike like last week to meet up with any potential customers who want to check out and try on some eco friendly wood frame sunglasses. Try before you buy. When will it stop raining? It seems every time we set up for a festival this year it has been raining, is raining, or will rain. If not rain than wind. That hasn't stopped us though! We continue to go to and promote our eco friendly wood sunglasses to all of Virginia and North Carolina.
This Saturday, May 21st we will be at the Front Royal Wine and Craft Festival for the first time. It looks to be a fun filled event with something for everyone. Music, food, wine and of course us! Stop by and see what we have on hand. New styles have arrived and we just added some eco friendly organic soap and candles by Good Earth. If you didn't get a chance to see us at the Hops and Barley Beer festival this past weekend, you can catch us twice this week! On Friday May 13th..... Don't be scared. We will be at the Market at Magnolia Green 7320 Hull Street, Mosley Va. Rain or shine for this event and it looks like it will be soggy but sunny for the day. We are bringing our tarp and carpet so we will have a dry spot to vend on. See you there!
Unfortunately Mother Nature and specifically the 20mph winds kept us from enjoying another Celebration of the Vine festival at Millworks in Midlothian on Saturday. It started off dubious when we were setting up our tent when it started to snow. When the 20mph wind gusts started blowing everyone's tent and merchandise around the festival finally got called off due to risk of damage and injury.
Another PLANK adventure! See you next at Great Grapes in Cary NC April 23rd. Keep creating adventures! Scott’s Addition. We all know it, we all love it, but why is it actually called Scott’s Addition? In 1818, General Winfield Scott inherited the 600-acre Hermitage Estate from his father-in-law, Colonel John Mayo. A portion of this land was named Scott’s Addition and remained in the family until late into the 19th century. Most of the estate was eventually sold, industrialized, and eventually become part of the Richmond we now know, but Scott’s Addition has still retained its name.
It was originally designated as a residential area, but for years, Scott’s Addition was just a run-of-the-mill industrial area of Richmond. That was until Justin French greatly inflated the tax credits on two of the partially finished warehouse buildings in the area. This, of course, was illegal, but did lead to some great things for the area. In 2012, the two warehouses were sold at a foreclosure auction and are now apartments, which lead to a huge increase in the population of restaurants, breweries, offices, and just all around fun spots, including Urban Farmhouse Market & Café, The Veil Brewing Co., Buskey Cider (coming soon!), Blue Bee Cider, and Ardent Craft Ales. Scott’s Addition has become an incredibly popular place for grabbing a nice pint or trying out some new beers or ciders. By the end of this year, it is expected to have two cideries, a distillery (Reservoir Distillery), a meadery (Black Heath Meadery), and five breweries, making it the craft beverage nucleus of Richmond. Scott’s Addition is almost at the point where there is one brewery per apartment building in the area. Besides being a great place to find and drink beer, Scott’s Addition is also full of a lot of other fantastic things, including a movie theater, all types of restaurants, a taxidermist, a tattoo shop, and a few churches. Scott’s Addition is the place to go if you want to catch a small glimpse of what Richmond is all about. |
